We promised this one was coming! In Gun Control Part II, the Reframers pick up where they left off in Part I, diving into the problem of mass shootings in the United States and then getting specific about the kinds of legislative policies that they think are most effective in addressing gun violence. They discuss whether there should be weapons bans, how to control who has access to firearms, and if there are other measures that we should be considering in evaluating this problem. They also touch on the importance of community investment as a method to decrease crime and gun violence. We hope you enjoy this Part II of a topic we can't seem to stop talking about. 

Reframing Climate Change

The Reframers talk about climate change and climate policy this week.

This one gets a little heated! Join us as we discuss & debate what approaches are available in combating climate change, and how much human impact is actually a factor. 

Reframing the Death Penalty

This week one of the Reframers had a life-long wish fulfilled, listen to find out what it is! Once we geek out about that, we tackle the death penalty. We of course talk about the historical context of capital punishment in the United States and then share our feelings about it today. We spend much of the episode exploring the data around how it is applied and the cost to our nation, as well as discussing the consequences of if we get sentencing wrong. Tune in to learn about the most serious of sentences our legal system can hand out!

Reframing Separation of Powers

The Reframers discuss the separation of powers that is built into our system of government. We review the history of each branch and how they've evolved over time.

Of course, each branch has its own unique set of powers, and the ability to check on the other branches' power. We drill down into why they sometimes purposefully do not check each other, and how this can hurt our democratic processes. 

Finally, we talk about different proposals that could rebalance power between the 3 branches in favor of the people.

Reframing Tech Censorship

The Reframers tackle censorship in this week's episode. The discussion ranges from the origins of free speech and why it was important to the Founders, to the development of free speech in the U.S., to the Internet and what's happening with censorship today. They debate President Trump's social media ban, discuss Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, and dig into whether tech companies are biased in their editing of posts and banning decisions. Reflecting on Afghanistan

Reframing Voting Rights Legislation

On the Reframers Podcast this week, we discuss the history of voting rights legislation in the United States and how we have expanded the right to vote over our nation's history. We also spend some time digging into the various voting bills that have been in the media from Georgia, and Texas. And of course, you can't talk about voting without talking about voter fraud. The Reframers also discuss the prevalence or lack thereof, voter fraud in the 2020 election.

We dive into the value that the United States places on higher education as a function of democracy and provide a snapshot of the situation the nation faces and the impact that our debt has on the economy. Reframing COVID-19 PART 2

In Part 2 of this two-part discussion on Covid-19, the Reframers catch up on the last two months of the pandemic. They debate the effectiveness and necessity of mask mandates in light of the recent change in mask requirements for vaccinated, as well as unvaccinated people. They also discuss vaccine mandates - what they are, where they are happening, and what the consequences might be of such mandates. Finally, they touch on vaccine passports and travel bans, rounding out a packed discussion heavy with respectful disagreement.
